Behind-the-Scenes
There's been a lot of exciting things happening behind-the-scenes at Inner Compass Books this winter. From interviews and virtual school visits to an online event with my alma mater (Mercyhurst University) and an epic in-person Creationeering event at the Nutrien Wonderhub in Saskatoon--it's been full of fun, connection, and creativity.
But, last week topped all of those with an exciting announcement that I am thrilled to be a part of.
Here is the behind-the-scenes footage from an incredible moment last week:
Last week, I had the absolute honour of sharing two Inner Compass books in a filmed author reading for the Nutrien Children's Festival of Saskatchewan!
What an opportunity, right?!
But, seriously, I was SO nervous.
I don’t usually get that nervous for events anymore. I’ve spoken to gymnasiums full of kids and teachers, and have been on live news interviews (which can be a bit daunting), but this took things to a whole new level.
I was sweaty, and shaky, and my heart rate was elevated all day. 😬
In an attempt to settle myself, I arrived over 30 minutes early to do some deep breathing, MindScape, and calm-down techniques in the car before I went in. My level of nervousness reminded me of pre-race jitters at track and field meets where I had to pee three times in the 5 minutes leading up to the race. 🥴
The good news is that we made it through and everything went really well. Thankfully, the GM and the film crew were so helpful, professional, and down-to-earth. It was definitely a meaningful moment, and one for the memory books.
I have fond memories of attending the Children’s Festival as a child and with my kids pre-covid, but I never even imagined getting to be a part of it. Have you attended the Children's Festival of Saskatchewan before? Or any other Children's Festival?
This year, the Children’s Festival is taking place online from June 5-8, 2021 for FREE to make it accessible to families across Saskatchewan and beyond. They’re going to have a great line-up of events, so mark your calendars and follow @childrensfestsk on social media because you won’t want to miss it!
